Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
William “Bill” Lloyd Diebold was born and raised in Southern California and moved to the Gorge area in the mid-sixties. He married, started a family and eventually settled in White Salmon during 1972.
Bill was well known as the “parts” guy having worked for Ray’s Auto for too many years to remember, first in Stevenson and then in Bingen.
He loved life in this area and enjoyed being outdoors whether it be walking the dog, hunting, target shooting, camping, working in the yard, canoeing and fishing. Northwestern Lake was one of the favorite spots for fishing and paddling around in the canoe and spending time as a family.
Bill was also known for his love of music and family. He was self-taught on the guitar and banjo and was able to share that knowledge and teach a few others. Gospel Bluegrass and the Banjo were his signature. He loved it when his family joined what simply came to be known as the “Family Band.”
He was able to retire early which allowed him to spend a lot of time with his family, especially his granddaughters and his dog.
Bill didn’t know a stranger, his family use to give him a bad time about “running for mayor” as he seemed to know everyone and had to wave or stop and talk. He had a gentle nature in talking with folks while always being straightforward and was able to share words of wisdom with many.
At his request, there will be no service. He would want you to remember those words of wisdom shared, his sense of humor and that deep chuckle that only he had.
Bill is survived by his wife Lavonne, daughters and sons-in-law Tami and Alan Newman and Terri and John Wenz, granddaughters Kally and Sophie Wenz.
