Waltha Evelyn Anthony of Mosier, Ore., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, in her home.
Waltha was born in Weiss County, Texas, to Bud and Mary Lou Rouseau in Engile, Texas, on Nov. 15, 1923. She was the fourth of seven children.
She graduated in Claude, Texas, were she sang on the radio with a hit single of “Cowboy Sweetheart;” she was additionally a cheerleader and FFA sweetheart.
In 1944, while in nurses training, she met the love of her life, a Naval mechanic named Martin “Tony” Anthony. They were married six weeks later. Martin and Waltha were married 54 years at the time of his death in 1999. They had four children, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Her greatest love was to serve the Lord and have fellowship with everyone. Her hobbies were cooking, reading, gardening, sewing, fishing, camping and writing letters. She loved the guitar and played multiple instruments.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Anthony, on April 23, 1999; and son, Mark Anthony. She is survived by daughters, Marilyn Buck of Tacoma, Wash. and Nina Chelemedos of The Dalles, Ore., and son, William “Bruce” Anthony of Mosier.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Mosier Elementary School in the gymnasium. Please feel free to join family at the potluck celebrating this remarkable woman’s life.
