Sylvia Marie Larch, 72, passed away Aug. 23, 2011, at 6:15 a.m. at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River, Ore. She was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Gillette, Wyo., the third child of Vern and Audrey Sharkey.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Larch, to whom she was married to for 29 years. She is the mother to four children: Yvonne Porter, Lois Gill, Dennis Lobley and Shown Osbourn. She loved and raised four stepchildren: Cynita McClung, Scott Osbourn and David and Donnie Larch.
She is a grandmother of 15: Kristina, Michael, Megan, Curtis, Angela, Amber, Rick, Nicholas, Wesley, Taylor, Adam, Christopher, Miranda, Dilan and Samantha; and the great-grandmother of six: Austin, Morgan, Ella, Rylie, Jayden and Taylor.
She is also survived by five sisters: Mary Smith, Rita Dorzab, Roberta Sullenger, Donna Sharkey and Ramona Myers, as well as by her two brothers, Rick and Lynn Sharkey.
Sylvia has called Oregon home since August of 1941. She worked at Duckwall's for 19 years as a fast and efficient fruit packer. She also earned a two-year degree to become a legal secretary.
Her talents included a natural gift for music. She could play any song on her piano after hearing it only once and could sing harmony with anyone. Her eye for interior design was exceptional; she took delight in helping others decorate their homes as well. She was an avid gardener and scrap booker. She lovingly created a personalized scrapbook for each of her grandchildren.
Family was very important to her; she loved all of her grandchildren dearly. Sylvia was a committed member of the Parkdale Nazarene Church. She enjoyed a good garage sale hunt, looked forward to monthly lunches with her high school classmates, visiting with her grandchildren, visiting the ocean and crafting with her grandchildren.
Sylvia was most comfortable on the go, and it didn't matter where. She will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by many.
Memorial services are planned for 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Hood River Church of the Nazarene, 2168 Belmont Drive, with Pastor Carl Casey officiating. A reception will immediately follow. Graveside rites will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Remembrances may be made to the Parkdale Nazarene Church in care of Anderson's.
