Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
On Dec. 26, 1946, in Visalia, California Preston and Vera Frances Hawk announced the arrival of me, Sallee Jo. Sister, Judith Ann, arrived two years later. The family moved to Menlo Park and then to Saratoga. I graduated in 1964 and attended West Valley Junior College.
In 1972, I married Frank Quintana and in 1974, we were blessed to adopt our daughter, Kimberly Ann. In 1978, I became a single mom, working for IBM and Hitachi in South San Jose for 32 years. My area of experience included positions in medical/occupational health, facilities engineering and finishing the last 15 years in San Jose West Region Security as staff security analyst.
During my last 12 years in San Jose, my passion became country western dancing. Through the dancing, I rekindled friendships with co-workers and even a classmate from high school and made so many new friends.
Kim married in 2005 and made me a proud grandmother of Jordan in 2006 and Jada in 2010. I retired in March of 2005 and moved to Hood River, Ore., to be closer with my mom, Judy and Steve. Once in Hood River, I volunteered for the Hood River Elks No. 1507. I was even Elk of the Year 2007-2008.
When I was diagnosed with stage 4 right lower and mid lung cancer in July of 2016, the prognosis was approximately 3-12 months. Kim started making plans for she and the kids to somehow get to Hood River to take care of me. Well, she accomplished the move! Once realizing that I was able to basically take care of myself and responding well to the chemo, a house was found and two residences were occupied (only a mile from each other).
A special thank you to Anderson’s Tribute Center; Dr. Sjoblom; Dr. Bernstein and the entire oncology staff and Providence Hospice of the Gorge. There aren’t enough words to thank everyone for their love, support, thoughts and prayers.
I am preceded in passing by my baby son, Ronald; Curt (husband); parents and grandparents. I will be watching over Kim, Jordan, Jada, Judy, Steve, Michelle and Adam.
