Ruth Irene McCall Blackburn passed away on Nov. 26, 2018. Ruth was born in Cottage Grove, Ore., on Aug. 13, 1927, to John and Ruth Woodard McCall. She was the youngest of seven children and the only girl. Ruth attended Oregon State University for two years of a five-year nursing program, then completed her degree at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1952.
During her high school days in Cottage Grove, Ruth was known for cavorting about town on her 1947 Harley Davidson motorcycle. She also worked for two years in a sawmill in Sutherlin, Ore., pulling green chain.
With her husband, Keith, Ruth lived in Madras, Ore., and Emmett, Idaho, before settling in Hood River and building a house on Tucker Road. In her later life, Ruth was known for her avid participation in parades, polka dances and events at WAAAM. She loved telling jokes, hiking and kayaking, and was a member of numerous organizations.
Ruth is survived by a son, Keith, and two daughters, Kaylene and Ronita, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her son, Benjamin; and all six brothers: Edward, Albert, Harry, Benjamin, Milo and Wayne.
