Ruth Ann Palmer passed away on Nov. 21, 2017, at Providence Hood River Medical Center in Hood River, Ore. She was born on Sept. 24, 1930, and was 87 years of age at the time of her passing.
Ruth was born in Wisconsin, raised in Iowa, and later lived in Chicago. She moved her family to California in 1955, where she lived most of her life. She went to College in San Jacinto, Calif., and worked as a school teacher in the area special education.
She retired late in life and loved to travel, taking numerous trips to Germany.
She had 13 brothers and sisters, most all of whom lived in the Chicago area, with one brother living in New Mexico. Ruth had six children, five boys and one girl. She had suffered great loss in her life with the deaths of three sons, Leslie at age 37, Roland at age 50, and Jimmy at age 60.
She is survived by three of her children, Carol, Scott and Lewis.
Ruth worked several jobs, sometimes as many as three at a time to make ends meet. She was active with the California Teachers Union and served as a volunteer for many organizations.
A memorial service was held on Dec. 6 at Shepherd of the Valley Bible Church, 1631 Eighth St., Hood River. Placement of Ruth’s urn will be at the Oakland Cemetery Waukon Burial Grounds in Waukon, Iowa.
