Ron Jones

Ron Jones passed away in the comfort of his own home Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born to Myron and Verna (Green) Jones at home in Montour, Idaho on November 9, 1935, the youngest of five children. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Fay (Niemonen) Jones. They were married in Seattle, Wash., on June 16, 1956 and soon after he was called in to duty for his country and drafted into the Army. After he was honorably discharged, Ron and Fay began their family and eventually moved to Oregon in 1962, settling in Wasco County.

He was a member of the Int. Union of Operating Engineers, Local 701 for 54 years and worked as a heavy equipment operator, primarily running a road grader. Ron's hobbies included wood working, metal detecting, playing the guitar and (as most people who knew him were aware) singing. In his younger days, he and a handful of fellow musicians, played country music in such venues as The Moose, The Elks and various bars in The Dalles. His love of music never left him and he was known for singing along to country songs at the local pub on karaoke night.
