Robert “Bob” L. Hanel, 72, of Hood River, Ore., passed away Oct. 14, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Hood River to Sterling and Kathleen Hanel (Linley).
Bob married his wife, Barbara Kay Hanel (Knox), on June 4, 1992, at their home in Hood River. He lived his entire life in the Hood River Valley, where he enjoyed his family and friends, golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing and camping.
Bob was a successful businessman, serving as president of Hanel Development Group, Indian Creek Golf LLC, HPC Properties Inc., RLH Properties, ANPC, Highlands Development Inc. and Hanel Lumber Company.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Kay Hanel; his children, Brad Hanel, Tyson Jacobs and Tara Stewart; and four grandchildren: Tyler Freas, Dylan Jacobs, Trevor Jacobs and Wyatt Stewart; his mother, Kathleen Hanel; siblings William “Bill” Hanel, Janet Princehouse and Jean Casey; five nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Sterling Hanel, and his wife Roxee Lynn Hanel (Benjamin).
Remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Gorge or the Odell Lions Club.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Hood River Valley Christian Church, 975 Indian Creek Road.
