Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Rick Zeller passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 24, 2018, at his Hood River, Ore., home, just three days after his 72nd birthday.
Services are planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30 at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River.
Rick was born in Barberton/Akron, Ohio, on Sept. 21, 1946, and moved with family to Texas in 1957, where he attended schools in the Kingsville area. He moved to Hood River in 1962 and graduated from Hood River High School in 1964.
Rick worked for Hood River City, then Hood River County, prior to starting Rick Zeller Excavation. He was very passionate about his work and equipment. He loved to go on drives around town, telling about and lending an ear on all the places he had worked and excavated. His friend base is, without a doubt, everyone! He did not see a stranger, and was ever so willing to help anyone.
He loved sports, but mostly watching his grandkids play them. Fond memories for Rick also included his trips to Branson, Mo., Mexico and the Snake River. He enjoyed his motorcycles, as well as his trips on them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in 2011. Rick is survived by his mother, Gladys Castle; children, Jeff (and Desi) Zeller, Marchi (and Norman) Colwell, Martin (and Kathleen) Sanders and Mitchell (and Shelly) Sanders; grandchildren, Taylor, Shelby, Travis, Kendal, Chase, Makena, Drew and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Thomas and William; brother, Denny (and M’Lee) Zeller; sister, Sherry (and John) Chichester; and a host of friends that he has collected over the years.
