A lifelong Oregon resident, Richard Thomas Miller, passed away at his home in Cascade Locks on Feb. 21, 2012. He was born Oct. 29, 1958, in Albany, Ore., and lived there until 1963 when the family moved to Portland.
He attended Woodstock Grade School and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1976.
Richard served proudly for six years in the United State Air Force Reserve and was an active member of the Columbia Gorge Lions Club. He was employed in several varied occupations with different employers in the Portland and Cascade Locks area during his life.
Richard enjoyed assisting others; he was often sought for his many home repair and maintenance talents. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friend.
Richard is survived by his mother, Martena Pennington, and sister, Mary Payne, of Cascade Locks; brothers Ralph, of Portland, and David, of Heidelberg, Germany; stepsister, Cheryl Nelson, of Portland; 10 nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; stepfather, Rolland; brother William and stepbrother, Ronald.
Richard's family encourages memorials be made in his name to the Cascade Locks Community Church; P.O. Box 395, Cascade Locks, OR 97014.
A service to honor, celebrate and mourn is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Anderson's Tribute Center.
