Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Rebecca Jean Cortez passed away suddenly on Feb. 13, 2018, in Portland, Ore. Becky grew up in Corbett, Ore., and lived most of her adult life in Gresham, until moving to Mosier, Ore., 10 years ago. Her first job was working at Multnomah Falls Lodge. She later worked at a log camp cooking for loggers, and she cooked as if she was feeding a camp full of hungry loggers the rest of her life. Most of her working years were at The Hemotology Clinic at Providence Hospital as a receptionist and scheduler. The patients loved her.
Becky had the biggest heart and would give the shirt off her back to anyone. She cared about everyone, mostly her loving husband of 44 years and her grandchildren. Becky was born on Sept. 30, 1941, to Charles and Valjean Pinkston in Portland.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Cortez, son Tod Pinkston and daughter Jodi Bates. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. at Abundant Life Church, Happy Valley Campus ,17241 SE Hemrich, Damascus, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Home at Last Humane Society, 200 River Road, The Dalles, OR 97085; 541-296-5189.
