Pilar Teresa Chacon Stencil

Known as a dedicated and hardworking employee, Teresa worked at Underwood Fruit & Warehouse for over 30 years before retiring.

Teresa was a member of the White Salmon Seventh-day Adventist Church and also regularly attended the SDA Hood River Hispanic Church. She devoted much of her time to helping others in need and volunteering for the SDA Community Service Center. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and sewing items that were given to those less fortunate. Teresa had an unwavering faith in God and loved to give her time and focus to others. She lived her life as a Good Samaritan, always willing to help anyone, and most importantly, spent time ardently praying for everyone. She adored flowers, especially roses, and lovingly tended her flowerbeds and yard. Her other hobby was collecting souvenir spoons from around the world and she fondly displayed her vast collection across her dining room walls.

Teresa was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She believed her greatest legacy was her family and that included her friends and neighbors because to her, everyone was family.

She is survived by her five children, Zaida Lorena Zuniga, Salem, Ore., Blanca Sonia Voigt, BZ Corners, Richard (Susan) Chacon, Parkdale, Ore., Mirayia (Steve) Baker, White Salmon, and Genaro (Tamie) Chacon, Forest Grove, Ore. Also surviving are many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Teresa is survived by her brother, Julio Chacon, Arleta, Calif., and was predeceased by her siblings Mary Chacon Gonzales, Norwalk, Calif., Maria De Jesus Chacon Gonzalez, Mexico City, Francisco Chacon, Los Angeles, Katherine Chacon Frahs, Underwood; and Octavo Chacon, Whittier, Calif.

Teresa was the beloved wife of George Stencil. They were married on April 21, 1994, in Husum. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1998. They were fishing partners their entire marriage and their joint headstone depicts two figures fishing together.

The family gives a special thank you to all the caring people who welcomed Teresa and her children 51 years ago into their small community of White Salmon. We acknowledge with deep appreciation the countless acts of kindness and support during her time of illness and since she went to be in heaven.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor C/O Anderson’s Tribute Center to the SDA Hood River Hispanic Church.

Service details are as follows: Viewing will be held 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, Ore. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 at Grace Baptist Church, 1280 W. Jewett Blvd., White Salmon. A reception will follow Teresa’s memorial. Graveside rites at White Salmon Cemetery will follow.
