Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Born Theodore Emlen Gordon on Nov. 2, 1925, in Portland, Oregon, Teddy Gordon went home to his Lord and Savior on Jan. 13, 2025.
Teddy lived his formative years on an apple ranch in the Hood River Valley prior to his family’s move to New Jersey. Teddy is a graduate of The Lawrenceville School and attended Princeton University. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
It was during summers spent in Bay Head, New Jersey, where Teddy met his future wife, Elizabeth J. Seaman, and made friendships that lasted a lifetime. After the war and college, Ted and Lee married in June 1950 and moved to the Morristown area, where they raised their five children. It was during this time that Teddy pursued his passions of family, hard work and golf.
Teddy founded Gordon Publications and retired well into his 80s. He was a mentor to many and friend to all. He was a long-standing member of Morris County Golf Club, where he proudly won trophies on many occasions.
During his retirement, Teddy and Lee split their time between Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, and Vero Beach, Florida. He and Lee were active members of Riomar Country Club, where they both served in various leadership roles. It was during this time Teddy led the charge to build Baker Hill Golf Club, a private golf club in the mountains of New Hampshire overlooking beautiful Lake Sunapee.
Teddy was an active golfer and enjoyed immensely his time as a member of the U.S. Seniors and the friendships he cultivated there. He was generous beyond fault and helped so many. Teddy will be remembered by all as always having a joke and a smile to share. He was an avid sportsman, pilot and friend to all.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Elizabeth (Lee); his children, Theodore E. Gordon Jr. (Ellen), Leslie M. Gordon, Michael C. Gordon (Megan), and Elizabeth G. Gage (Eli); and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Teddy was predeceased by his parents, J. Colin and Katherine (nee Jones) Gordon, his beloved oldest child, Mary D. Gordon, and five siblings.
