Susan Lynn Garrison Meyer died at home on Dec. 14, 2023, surrounded by her husband Monte Meyer, her son Andrew Holloway, and her daughter Amy Holloway Carlan.
Susie was born to John and Sandy Garrison in May 1957. She spent the better part of her growing up years in various places around the states and the world as an “army brat.” Her family finally settled in Diablo, Wash., and then The Dalles, Ore., where she graduated from The Dalles High School in 1975. In the years that followed, she worked at Safeway, Pepsi Co., and then numerous years at Fred Meyer, all while loving and raising two children. Susie and Monte married in April 1984. She was a faithful member at Gateway Presbyterian Church where she served as both deacon and elder over the years. In later years, she took great joy in being a grandma to Susannah and Luke who loved being with her.
We could tell you many more details about her life, but Susie was never one to call attention to herself. Instead we believe these words from poet Maya Angelou, that Susie kept written down, reflect her legacy best: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Susie made us all feel special and loved and we are forever grateful.
A celebration of her life will be held at Gateway Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
