Steven “Steve” John Wohlford, 55, passed away Feb. 27, 2025, at home in Hood River, Oregon. Steve was born Dec. 31, 1969, in Portland, Oregon, to John A. and Patricia L. (Jones) Wohlford.
He grew up in Portland, and in his youth, he swam competitively and joined the high school marching band. After his graduation from Columbia High School in 1988, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Steve was proud of his military service, which spanned six years. He was deployed in the Persian Gulf War, received the Navy / Marine Corps Commendation Medal as a Corporal, and earned the rank of Sergeant by the time he was honorably discharged.
After his service, Steve completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon before attending the OHSU School of Dentistry, where he gained his DDS. He completed his residency in pediatric dentistry in Michigan and was a fellow with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Steve moved to Hood River, where he worked for 17 years as a pediatric dentist at A Kidz Dental Zone, and he maintained his connection with OHSU School of Dentistry, serving as an adjunct professor in the pediatric dentistry program for several years.
Steve enjoyed traveling the globe, fly fishing, hunting and scuba diving. He is remembered for his adventurous spirit, his friendship to young and old, and his courage in life.
Steve is survived by his parents, John and Patricia; brother, David (wife Lydia); three nephews; and numerous friends from over the years.
Steve will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, where military honors will be performed at 10 a.m., Friday, March 28. Memorials are encouraged to be made in Steve’s name to the Gary Sinise Foundation (garysinisefoundation.org) or to the Pediatric Dentistry Support Fund through the OHSU Foundation (give.ohsufoundation.org).
