Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Shirley Anne Hamilton passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in The Dalles, Oregon, after spending several days surrounded by family and friends. She was 82.
Shirley was born in Portland, Oregon, on May 5, 1943, to Irving and Frances Peck. After graduating from Portland Christian High School, Shirley attended business college and began working for Farmers Insurance, where she met William Hamilton, who became her husband and life-long partner in 1968.
In 1971, they welcomed their son Greg into the world and moved to The Dalles, where Shirley began her new career as a home manager and mother. In the following years, they lived in Salem, Colorado Springs and then finally returned to The Dalles in 1986, where Shirley and Bill eventually retired together.
Shirley was a woman of many talents and strong faith. She served as a leader in the church through Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study, where she mentored and taught hundreds of women over 25 years. A creative soul, she was skilled at cross-stitch, singing in choirs, and had a life-long love of birds.
She will be greatly missed by William, her husband of 57 years; her sons Greg and Chris; her twin sister Dianne; and a host of family and friends. Â
A celebration of life for Shirley will be held on July 12 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3350 Columbia View Drive in The Dalles. Memorial donations in may be made to Camp Morrow at https://campmorrow.org/donate/.
