Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Sandra Sue “Sandy” Glenn passed away peacefully at her home in Hood River, Ore. on July 8, 2024. She was 71 years old. A memorial service will be held at Anderson's Tribute Center, Hood River, on July 21 at 11 a.m. A reception to celebrate Sandy’s life will follow. Sandy will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date.
Sandy was born to Oliver Leon Davis and Bobbie Elaine Davis on July 25, 1952, in Gresham, Ore. She was the only child of these two former residents of Washburn, Mo., and as the quintessential “Daddy’s girl,” had her father wrapped around her finger from day one. Her childhood was filled with lots of love and many family trips, including camping and hunting trips throughout the Pacific Northwest. Sandy graduated from Gresham High School in 1970.
Sandy had a zest for life, and often went square dancing with her family and friends, which is where she met and fell in love with her husband, Stanley D. Glenn. After a few do-si-dos, the couple married on July 1, 1977, and spent their honeymoon in Hawaii. The couple had three children, Michael, Jacob, and Veronica. They largely raised their family in the Portland metropolitan area, with a brief relocation to Colorado Springs, Colo., in the mid-1980s. Later in life, Sandy and Stan would relocate to the Columbia River Gorge, where they enjoyed a quieter life surrounded by family and friends.
As the daughter of a World War II Navy veteran, and the daughter and granddaughter of two strong and resolute women who supported the war effort, Sandy had an incredible work ethic, and devotion to her family. She worked long hours for little pay, and often endured lengthy commutes to reach her various jobs, but made sure her family had all that they needed, despite her personal sacrifices. The kitchen was her domain, and no matter how tired she was, it was a virtual guarantee that you would receive a loving, home-cooked meal from her at any time.
To say Sandy was as “American as Apple Pie” does not quite capture how loving, kind, and full of American spirit she was during her lifetime. On most Saturday mornings, Sandy could be found cleaning the house, with her cherished country music playing in the background, and a glass of iced cold Coca-Cola somewhere around the house waiting for her to enjoy (sometimes there might have been three glasses, because she forgot what she did with the first). She loved watching the ACM awards, and one of her fondest memories were taking her children to see Alabama and Kenny Chesney for their first concert. Sandy also loved classic cars, making sun tea, Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone with the Wind,” “Grease,” cheering for Army during the annual Army-Navy football game, and her beloved Seattle Mariners (who still owe her a World Series Championship). She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family while camping, going to rodeos, bingo (especially when she won), and celebrating the holidays. Her favorites were the Fourth of July and Christmas, and her Christmas decorating skills and traditions not only put Hallmark to shame, but have been passed on to several generations. Equally legendary are Sandy’s famous recipes, and specifically, her “world famous” mint dessert, which has appeared in homes around the country.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stan Glenn; her two children and their spouses, M-chael (Pastora) and Veronica; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and other cherished relatives, including her brothers-in-law Steve and Robert, and sisters-in-law, Le’Nae and Diane. She is preceded in death by her dear son, Jacob Glenn.
