Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Irene Brown passed away April 24, 2025, at age 85, ending a full life as a beloved mother to Ronald Medlock Jr., Jill Knight, Gerrie Hall, and Sonja Hancock. Irene had seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a friend to many, including her significant other, Don Shockley.
Irene grew up in Portland, Oregon, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957. After graduating, she married Ronald Medlock Sr., and they had three children, Ronald Medlock Jr., Jill Knight, and Gerrie Hall. Both Ronald Medlock Sr. and Ronald Medlock Jr. predeceased her.
In 1964, Irene married Larry Brown, and they had a daughter, Sonja Hancock.
Irene is survived by her daughters Jill and Sonja, both of The Dalles, Oregon. Her daughter Gerrie passed away just 15 days after her mother due to a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She is also survived by her sister Roberta Peterson (Larry) of Happy Valley, Oregon; brother Darrell McNeel (Patty) of Vancouver, Washington; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Our family is incredibly grateful of the kindness and compassion of the care Irene received from the staff at Columbia Basin Care, Flagstone and Bristol Hospice over the past year. A celebration of life will be held on July 19 at Sorosis Park in The Dalles from 2-5 p.m.
