Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Roy Glenn Mason at the age of 87 on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023. He departed peacefully at home, a departure that mirrored his wishes. Born on Jan. 17, 1935, in Detroit, Mich., Roy was an engineer and entrepreneur as well as a master fixer of all things. In 1965, he married Helen Spierling, and together they embarked on a journey to California to start their family. Later, they relocated to Hood River, with summers spent in Maui chasing the wind for windsurfing adventures. Roy's life was defined by his love for the outdoors — whether skiing, windsurfing, hiking, or traveling the world. Throughout the years, he maintained a zest for play and cherished the company of others.
Roy is survived by his wife, Helen; his younger daughter Jill, and her son Nicholas; his older daughter Jody Barringer, her husband, Dave, and their sons, Joshua and Jason; and his brother Lynn. His absence will be deeply felt by family and friends.
In lieu of a memorial service, friends and family are invited to celebrate Roy's life by embracing the outdoors with your next hike, ski, or ride of your choice dedicated to Roy, followed by a toast in his honor.
Roy's legacy, marked by his ability to find humor in all things and his penchant for petting every dog he walked passed, will continue to live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
