Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Ronald L. Jaques, 78, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Oct. 14, 2023. Known affectionately as Ron, he was born in Hood River, Oregon, on December 13, 1944, to Mae and Robert (Ky) Jaques. He was the eldest of two boys, growing up with his brother Jerry.
Ron’s love for the outdoors began in Hood River, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and exploring nature. As a teenager, he balanced his time between playing in the band, hanging out with friends, and working at the family grocery store, where he delivered groceries.
After graduating from Hood River High School in 1962, Ron attended Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls to become a radiology technician. His career took off at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon, where he dedicated 25 years of service, eventually earning the title of chief of radiology. Following his time at the hospital, Ron pursued his passion for art by opening a successful matting and framing business, Son of Coyote Gallery. Later, he reconnected with old friends Eric and Gail Johnston, working at the Troutdale Liquor Store.
Ron married his beloved wife, Shirley, in 1965. Together, they cherished cooking, entertaining, and traveling with friends and family, creating memories in France, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Grenada, Canada, and throughout the United States. Shirley preceded Ron in death in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories
Ron will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind his daughters, Jackie Jaques and Constance Kwon (Tae); grandchildren, Halsey Smythe and Ronin Kwon; and his brother Jerry Jaques (Deborah) and many nieces and nephews. All of them adore him with all their hearts.
A celebration of life for friends and family will be held Saturday, Aug. 24Â at 11 a.m. at 80750 Friend Road, Dufur, Oregon.
