Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Roberta Carson has gone home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family.
Roberta was born on March 23, 1944, to Lee Gibbs Guion and Katie Eugenia Davidson Guion, in Vicksburg, Miss. The fourth of their five children, Roberta earned her GED from Camden High School in Arkansas before attending the local School of Practical Nursing. After earning her LPN in 1977, she later attended Southern Arkansas University, receiving her RN degree in 1986. She achieved all this while parenting three grade school children, working full-time outside the home, and overseeing an extensive two-year kitchen remodel. She loved being a nurse, considering it a calling rather than just a job.
Accepting the Lord as her savior in 1974 changed Roberta’s life forever. While working at Union Medical Center in El Dorado, Ark., she met Carl Carson, who would become the love of her life. They worked together in the ER, and after dating for just a month, they got married on April 28, 1978. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage, bonded in the Lord. She once said, “The Lord put us together with the kind of glue that doesn’t break.”
In early May of 1979, Roberta and Carl adopted 6-month-old Hope, their first daughter, and gave birth to son Paul later that month. In August of 1980, daughter Heather completed the family. Even though she raised three kids born less than two years apart, Roberta survived their teenage years with hardly any extra wrinkles or even more than a few grey hairs.
Family was incredibly important to Roberta, and she loved nothing more than spending time with them. When asked what she might want for her birthday or Christmas, she would just say, “How about a nice day with you guys around.” She came to make lifelong friendships with people from her church and work that she held as dearly to her as family. Roberta made a difference in the lives of those she touched, including some she didn’t even know; she will be missed.
Roberta is survived by her husband Carl Carson; daughters Heather Lantz and Hope Carson; son Paul Carson; her grandchildren Michael Lantz and Elizabeth Lantz; her brother Richard Guion and his wife Kitty; sister Katherine Howell and husband Allen; grandkids Karen Antonia Fashbaugh, Erma Fashbaugh, Mario Fashbaugh and Thomaso Fashbaugh; and seven great-grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Katie Guion, sister Dana Farrior and her husband Randal Sr., her sister Mary McBroom and husband Claude, daughter Karen Fashbaugh, and numerous extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Operations Christmas Child or to the American Breast Cancer Foundation. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of her arrangements.
A tribute to my sister, Roberta Carson, by Richard Guion.
Roberta was a very intelligent person with a loving heart. She was a source of joy to all who knew her. She cared about others and was our family’s source of medical knowledge. She traveled from Oregon to St. Louis, Missouri many many times to help our sister, Mary, who had critical medical issues. On one of her flights, another passenger had a severe peanut allergy reaction. Roberta responded to the call for help. The flight attendants could not find the small syringe used to inject anti-allergy medication. So Roberta was forced to use a much bigger syringe. She apologized to the stricken woman, whose life she was in the process of saving. Her visits to us were treasured events. She will be sorely missed for her love and wisdom.
