Norman “Norm” Lee Paul, a longtime resident of Hood River, Oregon, passed away Oct. 15, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Battle Ground, Washington, with family by his side. Norm was born Aug. 15, 1928, and was 96 years of age at the time of passing.
Norm was born in Newton, Iowa, to Andrew Burton and Mae Irene (Anderson) Paul, the fourth of 11 children. He married Joanne Lou Trotter of Newton in 1952 and had two daughters. After Joanne’s death in 1995, he met Vivian R. Brown, and they were married in 1996.
Norman was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army from 1950-1954. He worked for United Telephone, with its various name changes, in both Iowa and Hood River from 1947-1988, other than his time spent in the military. He was raised a Quaker, then became a Methodist, and Norman was last a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Hood River. Norm liked to sing, travel and volunteering his time helping seniors with filling out their tax returns
Norm is survived by his daughters, Nanette Sue Gunderson of Battle Ground and Lea Ann Corder of Kennewick, Washington; Vivian’s children Mark Brown, Collette England, and Daniel Brown; and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Norman will be laid to rest beside his wife Joanne with a private committal service at the Pine Grove Butte Cemetery, Hood River. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced later.
