Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Our dearest wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Mary Lou Adams Leveque, passed away Aug. 28, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in 1921 in Yakama, Wash., to Leslie W. and Mildred Druse Adams, she moved with her family to the Hood River Valley in 1934. She graduated from Hood River High School in 1939 and the University of Portland in 1944 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
She served in the Army Nurse Corps aboard the hospital ship USS Comfort at the close of World War II. She married Charles A. Leveque Jr. in July of 1944 and they settled in southeast Portland to raise their family.
She was active in the League of Women Voters of East Multnomah County. She retired from Mt. Hood Community College, where she was in charge of purchasing text books, and where she made lasting friendships to this day.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Charles, of the family home; daughters Diane (Dan) Leveque, of Seattle, Wash., and Kathryn (Bruce) Meyer, of Prineville, Ore.; grandsons Christian Meyer and Casey and Sarah Meyer; and brother Glenn (Marilyn) Adams, of Hood River; and numerous lifelong friends.
Memorials are encouraged to Hood River County Library in Mary Lou's memory.
A celebration of life will be held at the family home on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. She will be missed more than words can say.
