Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Couch on March 6, 2025 in Pasco, Washington. She was born in Kearney, Nebraska, on Aug. 22, 1949, and was 75 at the time of her passing. She was the youngest of four children born to Harry and Naomi Miller and was the only one born at a hospital.
The family moved from Nebraska in March of 1953, settling in Anaheim, California, when Mary was just 3 years old, along with their Auntie Anna Lorenz, who Mary had such fond memories of. The family remained in southern California, where Mary graduated from Anaheim Union High School in 1967.
In 1969, she married her first husband Rick Reese, with whom she had two daughters. The family moved from southern California to Hood River, Oregon, in 1976, where her youngest daughter was born. Rick and Mary divorced in 1983.
Shortly after moving to Hood River, Mary started working for Farm Bureau Insurance, which eventually changed to Country Financial before retiring in 2018, working a total of 41 years there where she made many friends. She especially appreciated working for Keith and Rene Howell and cherished their friendship.
In September 1984, Mary married David Couch and they remained together until her passing. They were married just over 40 years. David and Mary have had many adventures over the years which included road trips back to where Mary was born, camping trips, and numerous trips to the coast. Mary’s favorite past-time was spending time with her family and friends. She also loved to play cards with good friends Dawn and Jerry Brown. Mary loved spending time with her two daughters and would jump in to help whenever she could. She especially loved being around her grandchildren and attending their sporting events and activities over the years.
Mary is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband David of Pasco; her two daughters and sons-in-law: Nikki (Jeff) Jones of Kennewick, Washington, and Jayme (Todd) Santoro of Dayton, Oregon; her four grandchildren, Mackenzie and Tanner Booth, and Katelyn and Sophia Santoro; her two sisters, Catherine Peck and Gloria Miller, both of Hood River; and sister-in-law Vera Miller of Platte City, Missouri; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her dad Harry Miller, mom Naomi Gentleman, stepdad Leo Gentleman, her beloved auntie Anna Lorenz, and her brother Robert Miller.
A funeral service and reception will be held on Saturday, March 29 at noon at Anderson’s Tribute Center, Hood River, followed by burial at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River. Officiant will be Rev P. “Kelly” Mahon of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Shriners Children’s Portland or The History Museum of Hood River County (c/o Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031). Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
