Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Martha (Marty) Goff was born Dec. 22, 1924, and died Aug. 14, 2024. Marty was part of our lives for 99.75 years. She spent her young years all over the country, moving from place to place with her military family. In 1944, she became a war bride, marrying Cpl. Jim Goff. We remember her for her kindness, hearty laugh, warmth, detailed stories of all her sisters and brother, beautiful garden replete with blueberries, tomatoes and fruit trees, and love for her generations of children and grandchildren.
Marty was The Dalles, Oregon, in many ways. Her family has always played a leadership role in our town. She donated her time and energy to St. Mary’s Academy, supporting her children and grandchildren’s journey through school. Education was central to her values, always celebrating the town’s young folks’ successes and their teachers. Her passions were reading, gardening, baking, and sewing. Marty was the child of immigrants from Central Europe. As such, she welcomed the stranger, the outsider, the newcomer, treating everyone equally.
Marty is survived by children Stacy Alan Goff (Rose Johnston), Teresa Ann Goff-Lindsay (Jan Beks), Mary Jo Larsen (Harry Larsen), and Stephen James Goff; grandchildren Camden Lindsay, Richard Larsen and Stephanie Bowen; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband Cpl. James C. Goff, first born grandson Dylan B. Lindsay, parents Joseph Andrew and Clara Katerine Dreszler (Dressler), and siblings Mary Vetters, Josephine Brunofsky, Joseph Dressler, Kathy Ashwood, Helen Lally and Fran Macri.
Father Rene will hold a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Oct, 11 at St Peter's Cemetery, The Dalles. Her daughter Teresa and her husband welcome interested parties to an open reception following the service until 8 p.m. Come and share memories of Marty. For more information, email her at MarthaGoff0924@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Mary’s Academy would warm Marty’s heart.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Dalles Health and Rehabilitation for surrounding Marty with patience, kindness, and loving care in her final chapter of life. Marty certainly did not “go gentle into that good night” (Thomas, 1948).
