Mark Allen Gutzler passed away on March 22, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 72. Born in The Dalles, Oregon, and raised in Portland, Oregon, Mark lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity.
A true sports enthusiast, Mark’s love for the game extended far beyond just being a fan. Whether it was football, baseball, hockey, or golf, he followed his teams with unwavering loyalty — cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Edmonton Oilers through every high and low (and mostly, they lost, but that never shook his devotion). His passion for sports wasn’t just limited to watching; he was a skilled and avid golfer, winning many accolades over his years of playing. He had a deep appreciation for the competition, strategy, and camaraderie that sports bring.
Beyond sports, Mark found joy in cooking, spending time in the kitchen creating meals to share with family and friends. He loved the warmth, beauty, and golf courses of Arizona but always held a special place in his heart for the Oregon Coast. His quick wit and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mark was preceded in death by his beloved son, Karl, and his parents, Darrel and Rachael. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, of Hood River, Oregon; his daughter, Kari Gutzler, of Tucson, Arizona; and his stepchildren, Jeff (and Kelley) Flory of Seaside, Oregon, Rebecca (and Sam) Kelly of Salem, Oregon, and Katie (and David) Burkhart of Warrenton, Oregon. He is also survived by his siblings, David Gutzler, Marcia (and Bill) Enyart, and Kevin (and Amy) Gutzler, as well as six step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held for family to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who knew Mark to celebrate his life in their own way—perhaps with a round of golf, a home-cooked meal with a great glass of wine or simply sharing a laugh in his honor.
