Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Machele Renee Leonard Rawlings went to be with Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 28, 2025. Machele was born in Hood River, Oregon, on July 31, 1967. Her parents Leroy and Ada Jane brought her to the family home on Belmont to join her older brother Ricky. Machele's older sisters Muriel Jane, Janet and older brother Gene were grown and out of the house starting their own families. She lived at the family home until she left to join her husband Garry on Aug. 3, 1985.
Machele spent her early childhood education years at Westside Elementary School. This is where Machele met Tammy Martin and Kim Bailey, her lifetime friends. She later attended Hood River Junior High School and graduated from Hood River Valley High School in 1985.
The Leonard family loved to hunt, fish and explore the Oregon coast. These activities would be a big influence on her life, and she enjoyed the time spent outdoors with family and friends.
Garry and Machele lived their married life in Hood River Valley. In June 1986 Garry James joined the family. Two years later, their second son, Richard, was born July 1988 and this completed their family.
Machele worked at several local businesses throughout the years. Her favorite job was working at Twin Peaks. The hours spent at Twin Peaks did not seem like work to Machele. She got to visit with many local customers and hear about their lives and what was happening in the community.
She was an active member of the Hood River Church of the Nazarene. She was board member, enjoined teaching Sunday school, and assisted with many other church activities.
Machele survived by her spouse Garry Wayne Rawlings; sons Garry James Rawlings, and Richard Allen Rawlings; grandson Payton Lyle Rawlings; sister Muriel Darr; nieces Misty Larsen, Samantha Lock, Kimberly Simmons, Sara Durnez, Malia Conner, and Amanda Kimber; and nephews Paul Cooper, Corey Darr, Travis Darr, Kim Durnez, Robert Durnez, Shane Boggs, Drew Rawlings, and Nathan Mears.
She was preceded in death by her mother Ada Jane Leonard, father Leroy Richard Leonard, brother Robert Richard Leonard, brother Gene Cooper and sister Janet Larsen.
Services in memory of Machele will at the Hood River Church of Nazarene on Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the service at the church.
