Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Linda Cicada passed away Feb. 19, 2025. She was born in 1942. She grew up in Los Angeles, and lived in Santa Barbara, Tuolumne, and Santa Cruz, all in California.
Eventually she moved to Portland, Oregon, and finally to White Salmon, Washington. Here, she and her partner of 38 years created the beautiful proprieties along the White Salmon River: “Raven’s Nest,” “The Spirit Lodge,” and “Overlook.” Previously, Cicada created the pioneering west coast establishment, Borsodi’s Coffee House, along with her former husband, Robert Borsodi, in Isla Vista, California. Cicada was an innovative entrepreneur, combining hospitality, food, and exquisite interior design in a series of successful businesses.
Cicada was well-traveled and journeyed to Africa multiple times for humanitarian purposes. She was a member of the Peace Corp in Africa and also traveled to Israel, Germany, Spain, and extensively in the United States of America.
She was a poet and published three books, including “Just Sayin’,” “Entangled Life,” and “She Who Watches.” Her poems often evoked her love of the natural world and deep concerns about its fragility and our culture’s destructive path. Despite the hard truths in her poetry, it also offered a path forward towards healing.
Cicada is survived by her partner, Oma Richmond; her son Chris Borsodi and daughter in-law Holly Borsodi; granddaughters Collette Bixby and Ella Borsodi; and her sisters, Diane McGrath, Rebecca Gabriel, and Lisa King.
A celebration of life will be held in Linda’s honor at 2 p.m. on June 7 at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, Oregon.
