Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Joyce Evelyn Stembridge, 88, of White Salmon, Washington, passed away on Jan. 17 in her home after a long and loving life. Joyce was born March 12, 1936, to James (Jess) And Marie Pierson and spent her whole life in White Salmon. After graduating from Columbia High School, she went to work for the “red and white” and then at Underwood fruit packing house for many years.
In 1955, she married JC Stembridge, and they had four children, James (passed at the age of 2), John, Jack, and Jesse. They spent many summers camping in the Mount Adams area at Trout Creek and Quartz Creek with cousins and friends and loved it when the grandkids would come out and join them.
Family was the most important thing to Joyce. She gathered many people into her fold, she never knew a stranger, and everyone was a potential friend. Joyce was also very involved with the Red Hats and was elected “Queen Bee” for a while, she loved the opportunity to get all dressed up with all her jewelry.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband JC, son James, her brothers, Bob, and Jim and sister Rainy. Her surviving children are John and wife Darlene, Jack and wife Jan, Jesse and wife Nikki. She has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Many others called her mom and were a big part of her life.
May her love, acceptance and pure joy be an inspiration to us all. The celebration of life will be set at a later date and will be posted on the Gardner Funeral Home website.
