Jennette Deloris "Jean" Tollerud, 84, passed peacefully away on May 8, 2012, in Portland, Ore. She was born on Nov. 6, 1927, to Borgil (Dillerud) and Edwin Johnson Sr. of Pelican Rapids, Minn., the fourth of their eight children. She was baptized and confirmed at the North Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Jean went to elementary school in District 280 at a one-room country school. She attended boarding high school in Crookston and Moorehead State College for her teacher's training.
Jean married Irvin H. Tollerud on June 20, 1948, at the North Immanuel Church. They left Minnesota behind in January 1949 for the Hood River area, and settled in Odell. She taught school, prospered a home business in ceramics, had a family and participated in her community.
She was an active member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Hood River. She was preceded to heaven by her husband, Irv, who left us in October 2007.
Jean is survived by daughter Jann Tollerud, of Louisville, Ky.; son David Tollerud, M.D., and wife Dr. Suzanne Ildstad, of Prospect, Ky.; grandson David Tollerud II and wife Sara, of Boston, Mass.; and granddaughter, Suzanne Tollerud, of New York City.
She is also survived by sisters Betty Engelstad, of Portland, Elenora and Manley Tollerud, of Apple Valley, Minn., and Marion Prim, of Fargo, N.D.; brothers and wives, Ervin and Eileen Johnson and Ed and Donna Johnson, all of Pelican Rapids, Minn., and sister-in-law Virginia Brandt of Moorehead, Minn.
She was preceded in death by brothers Arnold and John.
