Janet Wilson passed away peacefully in her home July 26, 2024. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Elmer, her father and mother, Arthur and Willetta Hill, her grandparents Sam and Molly Walker (who she was very close to), her brothers Ed, Mike and Tom Hill, and her grandson, Drew.
Janet was born on Christmas day, Dec. 25, 1935, in The Dalles, Oregon. Upon graduating high school, she spent the summer as a live in Forest Fire Lookout at the Upper 5 Mile watchtower, watching for lightning strikes and fires in the surrounding forest areas. After the summer season ended, she began her career at Pacific Northwest Bell as an operator in Arlington, Oregon. She then moved back to The Dalles, working in the business office until the local office closed and she moved to Portland, Oregon, for five years to finish her career at the US West phone company business office. She retired in 1988 after a 35 year career.
Janet met her husband Elmer in 1954 and they married in 1955. They were married for 58 years until his death in 2013. Janet and Elmer had two daughters, Mary Wilson, (Terry Turner) and Cindy Keever (Randy), two granddaughters, Lindsay Denney (Marcus) and Janelle Sandoz (Zachary), and one grandson, Bailey Keever. She had three great-grandchildren, Aspen, Bryden and Waylon, plus numerous much loved nieces and nephews.
Janet enjoyed tole painting, working in her yard, casinos trips, visiting the Oregon coast, visiting with loved ones, cooking for family and friends, watching her grandchildren play sports, and helping others.
A celebration of life will be held on Aug. 24 at Janet's family home in The Dalles. The outdoor celebration will be held from 1-4 p.m. Please join us in celebrating Janet's life. Stories of how you knew Janet are welcome!
