Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Hazel Pauline (Huckaby) Flory was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to William and Florence Huckaby. She passed away on Sept. 2, 2025, in Hood River, Oregon, at the age of 95.
She spent her younger years in Oklahoma and California before moving to the Mount Hood area during high school. She spent her youth running around with Ethel (Tommy) Elliott, causing havoc and being mischievous. They were best friends for more than 70 years until Tommy’s death in 2018.
She fell in love with the neighbor across the street, Alvin (Al) Flory, at the age of 18. They married in 1948 and moved into Al’s childhood home. They later bought property less than a mile up the road from Hazel’s dad and built their forever home. That is where they resided for more than 50 years raising children Alvin Jr., Brenda, Perry, Brad and, at times, a wayward grandchild or two. Hazel spent more than 30 years packing fruit for Duckwall Pooley while raising four kids. During this time, she enjoyed huckleberry picking, canning fruits/vegetables to fill the cellar, and roller-skating. She loved mushroom picking in the spring, pine cone picking in the fall and sledding parties in the winter.
She enjoyed her trips to Laughlin and Reno, gambling her way around town. She took many cruises up to Alaska and countless road trips to see family.
As the years went by, Hazel became a grandmother, which was a title she loved. She loved hosting sleepovers in the living room and preparing a big breakfast of buckwheat pancakes, bacon and fresh eggs. She was a competitor and not one to just let you win; you had to earn it. She spent many hours schooling the grandkids at Super Nintendo in their youth and a poker game or two as adults.
She is survived by her children Brenda (Gene) Meyers, Perry (Cherie) Flory, and Brad Flory; grandchildren Amy Sullivan, Holly Flory, Jeff (Kelley) Flory, Josh (Caitlyn) Flory, Ryan (Tonya) Flory, Rebecca (Sam) Kelly, Erik Flory, Katie (David) Burkhart, Debbie Nunez and Annie (Tony) Blaine; 14 great-grandkids and six great-great grandkids; and her sister Shirley (George) Pfaff. She is proceeded in death by her husband Al Flory (2002), son Alvin (2016), three brothers, one sister, and her parents.
A graveside committal service was held on Sept. 6 at Upper Valley Cemetery. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
