Glennen Raymond Grannemann died peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Harmony Adult Foster Home. He was born on July 2, 1941, to Paul Raymond Grannemann and Anna Margaret (Martin) Grannemann in a section house on the railroad in Washington, Missouri. He was an only child, was raised in his birthplace and graduated from Washington High School in 1959. He went to Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Missouri. From 1964–1968, he served in the US Air Force, stationed at Osan AFB, South Korea. Following his military service, he returned to complete his college education at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, earning a degree in Chemistry while working in chemical research at paint companies. Glenn retired from Dennis Chemical/PolyOne Corporation in 2003.
Glenn met the love of his life, Donnamae (Craber) Davidson, in 1988 and they were married on April 8, 1989, at Orchard Crest Camp in Fredericktown, Missouri. He has always declared that he asked God for a Christian woman, but never dreamed she would be a minister! He grew up in the Presbyterian Church of Washington, then became a member of Affton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), followed by Dover Place Christian Church (DOC), where Donnamae was the pastor for 10 years. He served as an elder in both of these St Louis congregations, as board chair at Affton Christian, started a youth group at Dover Place and was trained as a Stephen Minister.
While a member at St John’s Evangelical United Church of Christ of Mehlville/St. Louis, he appreciated the get-togethers of the many clergy couples in the congregation. Glenn enjoyed traveling back and forth to Femme Osage United Church of Christ in Augusta, Missouri, and then at nearby St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Marthasville, Missouri, while his wife served these congregations as transitional/interim pastor. These were close to his birthplace and gave him opportunity to connect with family and friends on a regular basis.
Glenn was a Hospice-trained visitor and respite care volunteer in St Louis and then with Providence Hospice of the Gorge in The Dalles. The couple relocated from St. Louis to The Dalles in April, 2005, to share a home in Pomona Meadows with his mother-in-law, Mildred Craber, until her death in February 2020.
The Grannemanns became members of Hood River Valley Christian Church (DOC) in 2005. They spent 2006-2007 in Clarkston, Washington, where Donnamae was serving as transitional/interim pastor at First Christian Church (D0C) and he was active in the men’s group. They returned to The Dalles. From 2009-2011, Glenn actively participated in the United Church of Christ Congregational, while Donnamae served a 31 month transitional/interim pastorate there. Family needs required their being close to home on Sundays, so they became active participants in Zion Lutheran Church (ELCA).
Glenn had a thick head of wavy, silvery-white hair, which the women always admired. He enjoyed being a part of the “Toast Boys” group of retired clergy and a couple of lay persons, who met weekly on Tuesday mornings for breakfast and visiting. Then there were the monthly men’s breakfasts at nearly all of the churches he was a part of and others he attended as a guest. He also enjoyed being an honorary member of The Dalles High School Class of 1959, his wife’s class.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anna Grannemann; father-in-law, Harold Craber; mother-in-law, Mildred Craber; brother-in-law, Loren Craber; and sister-in-law, Helen Marie Bellechez and her husband, Fred. Glenn is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donnamae; four step-children, Debbie Ray Davidson, Matthew Davidson, Chris Davidson (Deborah), and Dyanna Davidson; a foster son, Jimmy Hortiz; five grandchildren, Patrick Davidson (Amy Washington), Cherise Davidson, Natasha Davidson (Alex London), Megan Davidson and Gabby Davidson; and one great-grandchild, Aaliyah Marie Davidson.
A graveside celebration of life and internment will be at IOOF Cherry Heights Cemetery through Spencer, Libby and Powell, on Friday, July 25 at 10 a.m., convened by Pastor Alicia Speidel. A no-host gathering will follow at Spooky’s after the service.
Appreciation is particularly extended to Jerry Taylor, faithful weekly visitor; staff of Providence Hospice of the Gorge; the ongoing prayers, care and concern expressed by Hood River Valley Christian Church and Zion Lutheran Church; and The Dalles High School Class of 1959.
Memorials may be given to Hood River Valley Christian Church (975 Indian Creek Road, Hood River OR 97031), Zion Lutheran Church “Elevator Fund” (101 W. 10th St., The Dalles OR 97058) or Providence Hospice of the Gorge (1630 Woods Ct., Hood River OR 97031).
