Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
James Benson Roberson, 84, passed away at home in White Salmon with family by his side on June 12, 2019. He was born in Weiser, Idaho on July 1, 1934 to Benjamin Harrison “Robie” Roberson and Shelley (McKnight) Roberson.
Jim served in the United States Navy as an aircraft carrier pilot, then married Sharleen Jane Reed on June 24, 1962, at Camp Zama U.S. Military Base in Japan. After his military service overseas, Jim and his family moved to White Salmon in 1964 to join the local optometry practice and quickly built Roberson & Gibbs Optometry with his long-standing business partner, Bud Gibbs.
Jim was a member of the Elks, the Masonic Lodge and Shriners for many years and could often be found playing ragtime piano tunes, bridge or watching old westerns.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa Doslu of Portland, Ore.; son Brian Roberson of Newberg, Ore.; and grandchildren Ashley Mendoza of Auburn, Aya Doslu of San Francisco, Calif., and Austin Roberson of Newberg.
A memorial service will be held at the White Salmon Elks Lodge in White Salmon on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at 1 p.m.
