Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Douglas McCuistion, aged 82, passed away on Feb. 15, 2025, in Hood River, Oregon, following a brief illness. Doug was born on July 22, 1942, in Vancouver, Washington, to William (Bill) and Alice McCuistion. His father, Bill, worked in the shipyards during World War II; after the war ended, the family returned to their home in Trout Lake, Washington. Doug attended Trout Lake School, where he met Lynne Peterson, whom he would later marry in 1962 at the Peterson family home in Trout Lake. Their two daughters, Tery and Kim, were born while the family resided in Trout Lake. In 1975, they moved to Underwood, Washington, where Doug and Lynne have since resided.
Doug worked for several local logging companies, starting out as a choker setter in 1962; after a few years, he became a logging truck driver, and then a timber faller until the mid-1980s, when he and Lynne opened the Wind River Trading Post in Carson, Washington. The Trading Post sold a wide variety of antiques and Doug was well known for his skill in restoring antique axes and other tools. Together with their daughter Kim, they ran the Trading Post until Doug and Lynne retired in 2018.
Doug was an avid hunter for many years, and when he wasn’t hunting, he was riding his horses up in the woods or driving the Mount Adams back roads with his dogs. He enjoyed attending car auctions and worked on numerous vehicle restoration projects over the years. He was a man of few words but always spoke his mind. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Doug is survived by his wife, Lynne; daughters Tery (Ken) and Kim; and grandsons Douglas (Grace) and Connor (Tegan) Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathleen.
At his request, there will be no services. His ashes will be interred in the Trout Lake Cemetery.
