Donald Johnson
In 1973, Don's path intertwined with Gail, who would become his soulmate and life partner. After navigating the ebbs and flows of life and raising their families, their love story culminated in marriage on Feb. 12, 1994, blending their worlds into one of love, joy, and togetherness.
Professionally, Don dedicated 42 years to Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in January 2007. His commitment to his work was representative of his steadfast nature.
In his spiritual journey, Don found a cherished home at Tucker Road Baptist Church, where he turned his life over to the Lord and then served diligently as a deacon. His faith was not merely practiced within the walls of the church but was a living testimony exhibited through his daily interactions, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Survived by his cherished wife, Gail, and his loving children, Martin (Renee) Castilla, Robert (Erica) Castilla, Richard (Elaine) Johnson, Patricia (Steven) Kesson, Brian (Tonya) Johnson, and John (Shawn) Castilla, Don leaves behind a rich legacy, also warmly remembered by his 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and loving fur babies.
Don’s memory will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Eileen Brashers and Carol (Tom) Duddles, as well as a niece, nephews, many friends, including Leigh Oliver, and individuals whose lives were touched by his gentle spirit.
Through all life’s challenges, Don’s spirit, infectious smile and gruff exterior were a fountain of strength and inspiration for those around him. The memories of his kindness, bravery, and enduring love will forever be imprinted in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. at Tucker Road Baptist Church, 1455 Tucker Road, Hood River. Following the services, there will be a potluck; please feel free to bring your favorite dish.

I’m heartbroken for Gail and her family. I’ve known Gail for 60 years and I know the commitment she had for Don. Although I didn’t know Don very well it was evident in the times I did spend in their home that he was a God fearing family man. May the Lord be with family and friends during this time of sadness.
