Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Donald Douglas Ramsay of Arlington, Oregon, passed away in Baker City, Oregon, on April 27, 2025. He was born to Fred and Frances Ramsay on their homestead outside of White Salmon, Washington, on Sept. 28, 1933.
Don spent his younger days logging with his father on the homestead. He eventually went to work for a logging company. He also served two years in the Army and was stationed in Germany. When he came home, he continued logging but eventually became a road builder for logging companies. He took over the family homestead and created his first ranch, plus accumulated more land and another home.
Don married Leora Barnedt on Dec. 6, 1952, in Goldendale, Washington. They raised three children while operating and expanding their hay and cattle ranch, which they sold prior to moving to Arlington. They purchased a wheat, hay and cattle ranch 17 miles south of Arlington. It was his lifelong dream to ranch full time and he accomplished that with hard work and tenacity.
His whole world revolved around the ranch. While Leora could hardly wait to take a trip, he could hardly wait to get back home to the ranch. But take trips, they did! They went to Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, Yellowstone, the Redwoods and Mardi Gras, to name a few. They took rodeo trips to see their son Mike, who was a PRCA saddle bronc rider, compete. They took annual family trips with their son, Doug, and his family to the coast. And they took any kind of trip that their daughter came up with. Don also enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids in their activities, whether it was sports, the county fair, or rodeos.
Don is survived by his three children, Connie Ramsay of Condon, Oregon, Doug Ramsay (Lorie) of Lyle, Washington, and Mike Ramsay (Kelly) of Baker City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin Ramsay (Marci) of Lyle, Jaecee Hoctor (Josh) of Glenwood, Washington, and Katie Hams (Paul) of Condon; and of course, the great-grandchildren, Carson, Mason, Jocee, Jentry, Kyla, Paxton and Pacen.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Leora Ramsay, his parents Fred and Frances Ramsay, and his sisters Evelyn and Barbara. To honor Don, his family is having a private burial and gathering at the family ranch.
