David “Buck” Terrance Holmes, 84, of Home Valley, Washington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024. He was born on March 2, 1940, in Longview, Washington, to Robert and Edith Holmes.
In his earlier years, David served in the United States Navy. During his four years of service, he crossed the equator three times, earning the title of a Shellback. Following his time in the service, he became a proud husband, father, and, many years later, grandfather. He went on to have a long career in the logging industry, working as a timber faller, and eventually made his way into the construction and transportation industries, where he ultimately retired from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
David enjoyed spending the majority of his time in the great outdoors, whether it be boating, sturgeon fishing, gardening, bird watching, or chopping wood. He also loved his dog, reading, puzzles and was an even greater fan of Judge Judy.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Holmes and Edith Holmes, and two siblings, Robert Holmes and Beverly Graunke.
David is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, MicheleAnn “Miki” Holmes; daughter, Ranae Johnson, and husband, Michael Johnson; son, Jason Holmes, and wife, Michelle Sayer-Holmes; grandson, Brian Allen, and wife, Samantha Allen; granddaughter, Rachel Allen; granddaughter, Nicole Sayer; granddaughter, CiCi Jones; grandson, Timothy Jones; and five siblings, Jerry Holmes, Susan Berge, Nancy Gunter, Mary Fehr, and James Holmes.
A celebration of David’s life will be hosted by his family in the spring and will be announced at a later date.
