Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Dale Walter Shinkle was born on Sept. 4, 1938, to Darrell and Zelda Shinkle in Hood River, Oregon. He passed away in his lifelong home on Sept. 3, 2025, surrounded by his family, just one day before his 87th birthday. Dale lived in the same Hood River residence where he was brought home as a newborn.
He graduated from Hood River High School in 1956 and was instrumental in organizing a few of the class of ’56 reunions. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. Shortly after coming home, he met his wife Sarah, and they celebrated their 64-year anniversary this year.
Dale spent more than 40 in the propane business and became an expert in that field. He received many awards during his career in the industry. If you have seen a propane tank anywhere in the Columbia Gorge, chances are he was the one that set the tank. Dale was known for his love and knowledge of old cars and was an honorary member of the Ring Kings car club. He was also one of the best storytellers around because of his sharp memories and specific details. He wrote many stories about family and was even published a few times.
Dale loved his wife Sarah deeply and their three children. He was proud of his home and family. Dale will be sorely missed by his wife Sarah; son Alan Shinkle and his wife (Heidi Klein); and daughters Marcella Brooks, and Meredith Shinkle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Zelda Shinkle, and his brother Carl Shinkle.
Services were held Sept. 12 at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Dale was laid to rest at Idlewilde Cemetery in a private committal.
