Obituary: Cody Campbell

Cody and his family moved to Starbuck, Minn., in September 1994 and he started sixth grade at Starbuck Elementary. He attended Minnewaska Area High School, where he continued playing sports, Boy Scouts and R.C. car racing. Cody became an Eagle Scout and graduated from high school in 2001. He is also a Life member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

Cody always excelled at racing and became the NORRCA 4-wheel drive modified buggy champion at the Winter Nationals in 2002 and has won many other bragging rights in his sport of radio control car racing.

Cody was baptized on March 10, 1996, and confirmed on May 3, 1998, by Rev. David Grant, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Starbuck, Minn.

He received his AAS in audio recording from Hennepin Technical College in 2004. He put that knowledge to use by running sound for our annual "Udder Fest" Concerts of original rock music held on our farm and other venues. Cody and his brother worked together on recording projects and were in the process of setting up their own recording studio.

Cody also enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and especially ice fishing with his many friends and family. Cody's indoor activities included watching football, movies and playing video games. He enjoyed being with his friends and family.

Cody was employed for several years by Rail Works Track Systems. He traveled and worked on job sites in Minnesota and the surrounding states. His employer was really great to Cody and said he was on the fast track with their company.

Since November 2009, Cody has been battling metastatic melanoma cancer and endured many surgeries and IL2 chemo treatments. He never complained, or asked "Why me?" and was a real trooper. He always went back to work between surgeries and treatments and his company was really good during this time.

Cody was a loving, generous, thoughtful, easy-going and a caring individual. He was always fun to be around, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Cody is survived by his parents, Jay Roberts and Joanna Lee Campbell, of Starbuck, Minn.; his brother, William Jay Campbell, of Starbuck; grandmother Dorothy Lee Cannon, of Hood River, Ore.; uncles James Leslie and Chiyo Cannon, of Leesburg, Va., Xander Lee Cannon, of Hood River, Ore., John Colby and Debbie Campbell, of Starbuck, Joseph Lee and Sandy Campbell, of Las Vegas, Nev., Jeffery Hugh Campbell and Barb Richmond, of Starbuck, and Jerry Bramwell Campbell, of Starbuck.

Also surviving are his aunt, Jane Mary and Robert Meeks Jackson Jr., of Las Vegas, Nev.; cousins John Ashley and Rebecca Fleming Campbell, Jesse Robert Jackson, Joseph Michael and Connie Campbell and Forest Patrick Campbell, and Audrey Jeanette and Mike Haas, all of Las Vegas, Andrew Brady Campbell, of Minneapolis, Minn., Amber Beth and Alex Kempe, of St. Paul, Minn., many other relatives.

Cody is preceded in death by his grandfather James Cannon, grandfather John Allan Campbell, grandmother Bernadine Louise Campbell, uncles James Earl Campbell and Jesse Stevens Campbell, and cousin Eric Bramwell Jackson.

Funeral services for Cody will be held Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in rural Starbuck. Rev. Sarah Taylor will be officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers for the service are: John Campbell, Jeffery Campbell, Jerry Campbell, Brian Schreck, Taylor Thomas, Pat Timm, Wyatt Anderson, Alex Kempe and Andy Campbell. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
