Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Charlotte Ann (Sweeney) Blaisdell, 95, was a resident of The Dalles Ore. She was born Feb. 2, 1929, and passed away March 15, 2024.
Charlotte was one of five siblings, brothers Ace, Bob, and Johnny, and sister Lorraine, all of whom have passed. The Sweeney homestead was near Stevenson, Wash.
Their mother, Anna, died when Charlotte was born and their father, Charles, died later in a car accident. The girls were raised by Uncle Will (Bill) and Aunt Kate (Mom Kate) Douglas of Eagle Creek, Ore. The boys were raised in Stevenson and later all three joined the military during World War II.
Charlotte married Clyde R. Blaisdell on Dec. 17, 1946. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Living in Carson, Wash., they raised four girls.
Charlotte was a loving wife, mom and homemaker. She had a love for gardening, cooking and sewing. She made friends easily and her family was her life. Sadly, after making it through the war, Clyde passed away from an aneurysm at age 39.
Charlotte, as a single mom, courageously moved the family to The Dalles to start a new life. The two youngest were still in high school and graduated from The Dalles Senior High School. She made ends meet as an excellent seamstress.
Charlotte is survived by three of her daughters and her sons-in-law: Judy and Bob Cole, Sherry and Rod Runyon, all of The Dalles, and youngest daughter, Janice and John Jackson, of Boise Idaho. The second-oldest daughter, Donna, and husband Theron have both passed.
Late in life, Charlotte met up with an old family friend at a funeral no less, Gayle Rakestraw from Carson, a very special man who made a home for them in Carson and then they lovingly remodeled a home and property in Dallesport, Wash. Once again, it brought her joy, new adventures, and love.
Time passed along and Gayle passed away, but he had made sure she would be taken care of. Charlotte decided to return to The Dalles and was able to purchase a nice home in Pomona Meadows. The older family atmosphere and the close friends she made were a blessing throughout her remaining years.
Charlotte had seven grandchildren: Duane, Tharron and Jayson Cole; Kelley (Runyon) Lee and J. R. Runyon; and Luke Jackson and Chrissy (Jackson) Stoprya. There are nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m. in Carson at The Old Carson Cemetery. A no-host luncheon is planned following the service at Backwoods Brewing Company in Carson.
