Dr. Wieldon Walter Crompton (Bill) of Hood River, Ore., passed away at Providence Hood River Sept. 24, 2023. Bill was born in Pocatello, Idaho, Aug. 16, 1931, and was 92 at the time of his passing.
He was born to Wieldon and Hazel Crompton ( Hutson) and was an only child. Hazel passed away when Bill was 3; his father remarried Eunice Callison when Bill was 6.
He attended school in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1949. He attended Idaho State University until he joined the Navy. He served from 1950 until his discharge in 1954. He completed his studies at Idaho State. In 1956, he married Patricia Marie Elliott, and they moved to Chicago, Ill., so Bill could continue at Northwestern University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1960.
In 1961, they moved to Hood River, where they raised their three children and watched their six grandchildren grow up: Sons Mark (Lisa), grandsons Sean and Patrick, and Paul (Joan), granddaughters Alexandra and Emily; and daughter Muriel (Ray) Ishizaka, grandkids Wieldon (Willie) and Maggie.
Bill bought his dental practice in Hood River in 1961. He was very dedicated to his profession and was rewarded with a fellowship in the American Society of Dentistry for Children and the American College of Dentists. He served on the board of Oregon Dental Service for many years.
Over the years, Bills was active in the Hood River Community. He served on the city council, and was a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and sailing. He was a member of the Spirit of Grace Church.
Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia of 67 years, children and grandchildren. Bill was predeceased in death by his father Wieldon, mother Hazel and stepmother Eunice (Callison) Crompton.
A memorial service with Military Honors is planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 at Idlewilde Cemetery, Veterans Walk of Honor, 970 Tucker Road, Hood River.
