Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Betty Lucille (Patton) Bright of The Dalles, Oregon, died on Feb. 13, 2025, at the age of 87.
Betty was born in Leachville, Arkansas, on Nov. 8, 1937, to Benjamin Franklin Patton and Lydia May (McCarty) Patton. She later moved with her family to Berrien Springs, Michigan, where she met her future husband, Donald Duane Bright (Don). They were married on Sept. 4, 1955, and spent 71 years as husband and wife.
Don and Betty welcomed their first child, Kelly, on Jan. 1, 1960. She was followed by a son, Todd, on Sept. 30, 1961.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Betty worked as a secretary for much of her life. During her time as secretary at The Dalles Middle School, she became interested in teaching. After her children were grown, Betty began attending Judson Baptist College, where she earned her teaching degree. She subsequently taught at The Dalles area schools for several years. Betty was always delighted when she was approached around town by former students who remembered her from years earlier.
Betty enjoyed making baskets, creating greeting cards and various other crafts, gardening, and visiting with family. Although she attended several churches in The Dalles area, she always considered Rowena Baptist to be her home church.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Don; her children Kelly and Todd (Sherri); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four half-siblings; and numerous other relatives and friends.Â
At her request, no immediate service will be held.
