Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
R. Burnell “Bernie” Krager was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on June 8, 1934, to a farm family with four much older sisters. His family moved to a small acreage property in Oregon west of Newberg in the Willamette Valley when he was 12.
After high school graduation, Bernie attended the University of Oregon and NW Christian College. His graduate work was at Drake University. After completing his master’s degree, he was in chaplain’s service at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Bernie served several Disciples of Christ Christian churches in Iowa, Oregon, and Washington while also serving as local hospital chaplain in each community.
He retired to White Salmon, Wash., in 1999. He participated in multiple community projects over the next 26 years. Bernie enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including fishing, canoeing, cross country skiing, and beekeeping.
