Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Arlene Rosetta (Place) McCorkle peacefully ascended to Heaven on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at Canyon Rim Assisted Living in Maupin, Oregon. She was born on Oct. 3, 1933, in Banks, Oregon, the daughter of James and Eva Place.
She is survived by her brother James Place; her children, Penni and Randy Delco, Randy and Melinda McCorkle, and Alan McCorkle; along with grandkids Grant Delco, Gary Delco, Nicole Sloper, Koby McCorkle, Jason McCorkle and Calvin McCorkle; and two great-granddaughters, McKinley Sloper and Morgan Sloper.
Arlene had a big heart and participated in youth reading programs into her 70s, was active in the Redhats, loved watching her grandkids in sports activities and enjoyed travelling with her husband on many trips. She always enjoyed cooking for and talking with friends and family and never missed a chance to play Pinochle.
Arlene and her deceased husband, Kenneth McCorkle, were longtime residents of Maupin and, later in life, The Dalles, Oregon. At an early age, she and her family moved from the Willamette Valley, where they operated the Wapinitia store, formerly known as the Beebees store and more recently Walters Corner.
She worked at the school in Maupin in the cafeteria for years and also for The Dalles Cherry Growers.
A private family ceremony will be held.
