Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Aaron Joseph Wagar went to be with his Savior in Heaven on Sept. 22, 2023. He passed from a heart attack at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Riverbend in Springfield, Ore.
Aaron was faithful to the Lord all the days of his life, just as the Lord was faithful to him. Aaron was born in Renton, Wash., on Jan. 5, 1968, to Jon and Bernie Wagar. He graduated from Liberty High School in Renton in June 1986. In 2017, he proudly graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration from Eastern Oregon University.
Aaron married his best friend and beloved wife, Carol Moshofsky, on June 16, 1990. They had many of the same interests and passions, with a great love for Jesus and children at the top of the list. Through their 33 years of marriage, they had many joys and struggles but always kept their faith in God and each other. Aaron and Carol started their family in Kent, Wash., and they lived in Washington with their five children until 2005. At that point, they relocated to Hood River, Ore., their home of 15 years.
Aaron loved walking along the Hood River Riverfront Park and was a dedicated customer of the Saturday Market and the Fruit Loop. Aaron and Carol attended and served at Covenant Hood River church, becoming close-knit with the community there. Aaron’s favorite place on earth was Hood River, and it continued to be “home” for him even after he and Carol moved away.
Aaron’s greatest treasures in life were his children and his grandchildren. He wanted nothing more than to see his children follow the Lord and be a grandpa. His dream of being a grandpa finally came true in 2023. He was, arguably, the happiest he had ever been with those two babies in his arms. Aaron had a huge heart for younger generations and for the financially insecure. He believed everyone should be loved and cared for as Jesus would have done. Everyone knew Aaron for his humor. He had a quick wit and is remembered for his endless stream of movie quotes and dad jokes. Aaron’s wisdom will also be remembered and cherished.
Aaron is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Joshua, Ryan, and Daniel; his daughters, Sarah Wai and Jess Olsen; and his grandchildren, Nina and Caspian. He is also survived by his father and mother, his siblings (Kristy Calozza and Jonny Wagar), and their children.
A celebration of life is being held in Aaron’s honor at Joy Church in Springfield at 4 p.m. on Oct. 22. Casual attire is encouraged.

I am very saddened to hear this. I worked with both Aaron and Carol for several years and enjoyed the friendship of both. Being a Toastmaster in the same club meant sharing personal stories and I learned to know both and their family. Carol must be devastated but I know her faith will balance the shock of this loss, too soon. My sympathy to the kids and grandkids who do not get to have him in their future years.
