Minnie Lee Talley Herman, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and dear friend, peacefully passed away in Hood River, Ore., just days before her 105th birthday, on March 23.
Minnie was born in Marysville, Okla., on March 26, 1911, to Pleasant Oscar “PO” and Mary Belle Clayton Talley.
Minnie grew up in a family with two sisters (Vina and Maxine) and three brothers (Carl, Stacy and Everett).
Her family settled in the Soper, Okla., around 1922. It was there that she met Sterling Herman at a church social and they were married on Feb. 11, 1933. Their daughter, Glada O’Brien, was born in 1933, son Sterling Jr. in 1937, and son Roger Dennis in 1941.
Minnie is survived by her son, Roger Dennis Herman and his partner Lynn Shaw of Bend, Ore., son-in-law Tom O’Brien of Redmond, Ore., grandchildren Colleen O’Brien of Mayer, Ariz., Kristine Rowell and husband Russ of Los Gatos, Calif., Dawn Kyles and husband Dean of Las Vegas, Nev., Jason Francis and wife Elizabeth of Lincoln City, Ore., great-grandchildren Katie Rowell, Eric Rowell and Trevor Rowell of Los Gatos, Calif., Dr. Christopher Kyles and wife Molly of Milwaukie, Ore., Dakota O’Brien and wife Ally, and Aaron McCluskey and wife Jesika of Las Vegas, Nev., and great-great-grandchildren Eleanor Kyles, Sophie McCluskey and Brody O’Brien. She is also survived by sister-in-law Beulah Herman of Hood River, numerous nieces and nephews, including Dorothy Herman, Jim Herman, and Aaron Kilgore of White Salmon, Wash., and Bobbi Reisner of Hood River, and dear friend Marilyn Wilson of Hood River.
Minnie and Sterling moved to Mosier in 1947 and both went to work at Apple Growers Association (AGA), which later became Diamond Fruit. Minnie and Sterling moved to the Wilson’s farm east of Mosier and Sterling helped Mark and Grant with pruning and other jobs as well as working at AGA. Minnie retired from Diamond Fruit in 1976. Minnie and Sterling remained on the Wilson farm until after Sterling passed away. Her last home in Mosier was the Mosier Creek Senior Apartments, where she lived for over 10 years, close to friends and caregivers. She lived in Mosier for 68 years before she was moved to Parkhurst in Hood River in January 2015.
Family and friends were very important to Minnie and though she had outlived many, she cherished the time she spent with both young and old.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, April 3 at 10 a.m. at Anderson Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Road, Hood River. Reception to follow service.
