Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
An intimate graveside service was held for Mildred Rowena Porter Bronson on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Parkdale Cemetery. Mildred, known as Morning by many of her close relatives, was 101 at the time of her peaceful death.
Mildred was the third of four daughters born to Harry and Harriet Hasbrook Porter. She was raised in the Vancouver, Wash., area and attended Oregon State University. Mildred married Charles D. Bronson in August of 1932.
Mildred and Charles lived in Seaside, Ore., where they started their family before moving to Parkdale, Ore., in 1944. Mildred's home in Parkdale was the setting enjoyed by five generations of relatives and their families for holidays, birthdays, and family reunions.
Mildred was a member of the Parkdale Saddle Club and the Parkdale Booster Club. She was also a member of the Parkdale Community Church, where she faithfully arranged the flowers for Sunday services, as well as other church events, for 60 years. She was an avid gardener and accomplished artist.
Mildred remains an inspiration of kindness and generosity for her eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and their families. Her son, Charles D. Bronson III, lives in Gig Harbor, Wash., and her daughter, Gayle Bronson Gray, lives in Parkdale. Mildred's youngest sister, Margaret Porter Melquist, lives in Pomeroy, Wash.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bronson, and her youngest daughter, Peggy Bronson Hampson, of Tacoma, Wash.
A celebration of Morning's life will be held on May 19 at the Parkdale Community Church with a reception to follow at the Gorge Room at the Hood River Inn.
Memorials may be donated to the Parkdale Community Church or Hospice of the Gorge in Mildred Bronson's name.
