Merdith Marie Smith passed away in Portland, Ore., on May 10, 2016, at the age of 82. She was born June 17, 1933, at Camp 7, Klickitat County, to Venetia Lucille (Odle) and Fred Willis Steinbach.
Merdith married Buckley Smith on Sept. 20, 1949, in White Salmon and they had four children together.
She worked for many years at Town and Country Restaurant in White Salmon, Underwood Fruit and Warehouse and retired from Luhr Jensen in Hood River at the age of 67.
She loved bowling, playing pinochle and gardening.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her children Susan Rogers of White Salmon, Gary (Beth) deConinck-Smith of Braintree, Mass., Kathy (Joe) Simon of White Salmon, and Mary (Rick) Williams of Ellensburg; brother Fred Steinbach of Glenwood; longtime companion Dean Carr of The Dalles and his sons Todd and Mark; eight grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother George Steinbach and sister Venita “Sweeter” Dean.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Gardner Funeral Home.
