Maxine Freitas, 96, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, in her home in rural Hood River, Ore., surrounded by her loved ones. Maxine was born Jan. 8, 1918, to Ray and Luella “Blair” Vaughn, in Douglas City, Calif.
Maxine went to school in Hayfork, Calif., and Weaverville, Calif.
On March 20, 1936, Maxine married Stanley Thomas in Medford, Ore. In addition to Medford and Hood River, Maxine’s areas of residence included Redding, Calif., Walla Walla, Wash., and Reno, Nev.
Maxine worked for Duckwall Fruit Company. Some of her interests were sewing, camping, playing games and sightseeing. Maxine also loved spending time with her family.
On Dec. 16, 1949, Maxine married Tony Freitas in Reno, Nev.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Thomas; son William Overton Thomas; parents Ray and Luella Vaughn; brothers William Vaughn and Charlie Vaughn; grandson Billy; granddaughter Miranda; and great-grandson Dustin.
Maxine is survived by her sons Robert Thomas, of Hayfork, Calif., and David Thomas, of Hood River; daughter Betty Brock, of Salem, Ore.; sister Brenda Ritchie, of Redding, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
